Heritage Interviews Project -CAPTURING
STORIES
Local residents interviewed several locals and visitors on Saturday,
September 3rd, 2005, during Roslyn’s 2005 Coal Miners Days Festival
as a pilot project to collect stories and interviews about the Roslyn-
Ronald- Cle Elum area.
These interviews are now available to check out at the Roslyn library,
in a 2 CD set. They are the starting point for an ongoing project
to document the heritage and culture of Upper Kittitas County. Right
now (winter 2005 to early summer 2006) community members are working
on a more edited series of interviews, about strong impressions and
memories of Upper Kittitas County.
Sponsored by RIDGE, a local
citizens’ group , the Friends of the Roslyn Library, and the
Cle ELum Library; Jack Straw Studios (of Seattle) donated use of the
sound equipment necessary to record the first interviews. The Heritage
Interviews Project now has one recording setup and is seeking donations
for another.
Our second project is also a 2-CD set, featuring longer interviews
and some songs. These are also available to listen to at local libraries,
and for sale ($10.00 for the set) at the Roslyn Library and Owen's
Meats in Cle Elum. I can arrange to send out a set if you email me
info@elliebelew.com We are grateful to Humanities Washington for its
support as we completed this project and begin our third.
